  • Instant Training Improvement Tips: fear nothing and reach your greatest goals

Posted on August 8, 2012 by John Davies

Somewhere along the path of young athlete to experienced coach of many seasons, you realise the greatest foe stands before you in the mirror. Fear is the deadliest foe we must face and fear is the beast that must be tamed if you are to reach your potential.

Fear does not hide in dark shadows and go bump in night but within self doubt. Each of us has tasted it, some fought through it but most have fell victim to fear in some shape or form. Whether it is shown in lowered results in school, sporting interests or your career, the acceptance of failure is the by product of fear winning. The blood of failure comes from the knife of fear.

Ridding yourself of fear is the first steps of success as you finally capture the notion, I can, I will. By believing in yourself, you rip the jugular out from fear and make the decision to learn how to accomplish your goals and then comply with the plan to fulfill your objective.

Fear’s greatest nemesis is belief, conviction and intent.

    Believe in yourself.

Remain undaunted and push forward with intent.

I understand this road deeply as my challenges in youth were many. I escaped the clutches of death to get out of the bed I wasn’t supposed to, tackled education when others tried to convince me to relinquish my goals and later developed a system of sports development that is widely used all because of the belief of the power within.

Have faith, you have the talent and ability to accomplish greatness and simply must weather the storms of adversity. You will hear it said or displayed in countless ways but attack all that you do with all that you have and believe.

  • Instant Training Improvement Tips: attacking your goals with a complete plan

Posted on June 13, 2012 by John Davies

Success does not come by chance.

Let me repeat myself as apparently in a era of entitlement where many expect to being rewarded for finishing last, success comes from hard work, determination against an often uphill battle, a solid plan of attack and stepping well outside your personal comfort zone.

To be a success in a highly competitive arena you will need to stretch the boundaries of your preparation, often to areas you have never considered and when all others are exhausted you stay focused and attack.

Some will look at the doorway of opportunity and sit meekly on their hands but I will tell you not to hesitate and kick the damn thing down.

This mental approach should be second nature to the iron-game for as much as there is scientific analysis, theory and debate over virtually every consideration no-one can measure grit.

Throughout my career in sport coaching I have heard “I want this” in countless languages and though it will sound different the eyes of an athlete give away the determination that says “attack”.

I understand this attacking venom, it boils deeply and though the years add up each sun-rise it never ceases.

Push harder, go faster, never let up, attack, attack attack.

Yet with time and experience the great gift of knowledge teaches that such intent must recall that success does not come by chance and each plan of attack must include a detailed approach to training, diet and supplementation.

Therefore as you attack your training sessions, remember to pay equal care by respecting your body with a proper diet and a supplement regime to accelerate your results. Failure to manage a health diet and the appropriate supplement plan will only see results languish. Be thorough as you press forward to your goals.

For the record it’s 0500 and I’m ready.

  • Instant Training Improvement Tips: goal achievement in the Summer of Shred

Posted on June 5, 2012 by John Davies

My lungs heaved, legs “screamed” but within ten minutes remaining in practice there was no stopping and simply time to “punch the pedal to the floorboards” and leaving nothing behind. This very simple decision is one athletes in every corner of the world face each day and despite the endless scientific analysis there is no quantifying will, desire and the look of an individual who knows, “I can, I will”.

This is the mark of both my own sporting career where my failings have bridged with such an attitude that I have equally imparted upon my athletes. It is, the oldest of my speeches that revolves around the pillar of an athletes heart.

You must possess the resolve to weather the difficult tasks. Let me stress to accomplish great things in life you will need to navigate many trying challenges and your successful passage is made possible by possessing resolve.

You must be bold, audacious and confident to press on through the storms that vanquish others. Fear is our deadliest foe and as I did in my youth, once you rip it away from your thoughts you can accomplish much in your life. Be bold, be confident and attack.

You must be courageous in the face of adversity. Life will throw many a challenge at you, some remarkably more difficult that what you might be presently accustomed to be with the elimination of fear and with the breastplate of courage you will press forward. Be unconquerable.

Each of these traits must be mission driven and let me stress emblazoned with honour, commitment and loyalty. The tasks ahead are challenging but they will not be abandoned without completing and for that matter will be met in a manner the brings pride to your community, your family and your heritage.

To many considering, there might be a question of how this relates to physical conditioning yet in-fact this is the absolute “hub” of all training considerations as without drive, determination and dedication failure is imminent.

These four pillars are the hallmarks of success in athletics as well as many other facets of life and if embraced can be the mortar in the building blocks of attaining your goals. Pressing forward with these guiding principles will lead you through challenges in exercise but also provide you the motivation as “you can, you will” becomes, “I believe” and eventually “I did”.

As many face challenges in exercise, whether overcoming injury or managing pain, attempting to lose weight or build muscle, remember these four pillars and be bold, audacious and confident and attack.

Attack your goals, believe in yourself and yes, have faith.

  • Instant Training Improvement Tips: the heart of the strength athlete

Posted on May 1, 2012 by John Davies

Like a child thirsting for knowledge, historically the best part of the iron-game acted in a similar manner and in time matured to teach the next generation “tools” of this magnificent trade. The simple nobility of the iron game is a majestic ride through time from youth to master and eventual elder statesmen, paved with the honest love of physical accomplishment and fellowship and speaks volume of character.

Somewhere along the sands of time the family owned neighbourhood gymnasiums of the past turned to the vast business frontier of the present and the fraternity of the iron game and its great lessons were all too forgotten by much of the public. In an era too prone to hasty decisions and forgets about the greater good of our fellow man, the mentorship provided in the iron-game was ignored for many years. However despite this neglect as you brush aside the tarnished exterior the heart of the strength-athlete gleams brightly.

The heart of the strength-athlete beats strongly with goodness, a sense of striving with integrity and a spirit that forever knows that though the road may be tough and the challenges daunting they will persevere. It is very easy to see the ancestral walk of the strength-athlete, from brandishing iron on steed to serve and protect and later displaying great feats not as a display of brawn but to motivate and uplift their fellow man.

At the heart of the strength-athlete there is honour.

My friends, that is the iron game and though their appearance may differ from various regions of the world, at its heart are the bold, the accountable and if truth be told, a lesson for much of our world today. The “iron” is the toughest of judge and jury’s but with each falter the strength-athlete rises up to serve as evidence that adversity is something you overcome.

At the heart of the strength-athlete there is commitment.

Strength-athletes know the journey is a long and arduous one and though the challenges are mighty, they press onward. Through the trials and tribulations, the ups and the downs they press onward and quite obviously, yes a lesson for much of the world today.

At the heart of the strength-athlete there is loyalty.

Loyal to their friends, fellow strength-athletes and in-fact the iron-game because membership to his club is wide open, you merely must be willing to develop the above qualities and in-time you too will pass the knowledge on to the next generation.

Some will scoff at my notions and consider them dated and of romantic vision another era when many answered the impossible task of “never surrender” but on the horizon there lays a renaissance of the golden age. The errors of the past few decades are slowly being replaced by a new breed that looks like the old breed, men and women who stand tall in their communities with the breastplate of bettering the lives of other and equally proudly talk not of their own accomplishments but the love of family and exhibit fellowship at every turn.

Through these eyes the lustre of iron-game gleams brightly as the heart of the new generation of strength-athlete is built upon honour, commitment and loyalty.

That, my friends, is both brick and mortar to the better stronger society and a bright horizon.

  • Instant Training Improvement Tips: stay devoted to your goals

Posted on April 30, 2012 by John Davies

At the heart of the matter one the most important traits of an individual is devotion to a greater good and for that matter staying true to your beliefs. Life has many storms, trials and tribulations but those who stay the course when others fail will rise to the top. This does not come with qualification but firm realisation that managing duress crosses virtually every test our life faces including those within health, fitness and sports conditioning.

Devotion to goals is and must always be a constant if you are to be successful. Athletes in their early days at the elite level will often possess bales of raw athletic ability but when ravaged by injury in competition only their devotion will see them press onward. I know what is like to get up from injury when they tell you “it’s over” and can tell you succinctly, only that can be decided by you and a bulldog’s determination fights onward when others cease.

Devotion, resolve and the dedication to do what we do with all our might is the hallmark of success in sport and exercise, as well as other aspects of life and with each uphill battle an individual can either prove your mettle or fall short. Within team sports this is often stressed with the backdrop of playing with unified direction and without egotistical needs. In this manner the hands of devotion have been clenched to compete for team, team-mates and the greater good of a common goal. Team players fight onward not for personal needs but for their team-mates and of-course the crest they share.

Within the iron-game this need not be different in my opinion as whether an individual is an Olympic weightlifter, a Powerlifter or an everyday exercise enthusiast your actions will not only determine your success but lay a pathway for others to follow. Like a child who watches their parents and learns patterns of behaviour, the iron-game is the same as one generation’s attitude and approach carries forward to the next.

That said, the responsibility of the iron-games future is not off in the distance but what is done right now.  What you do now will be remembered and lay the foundation of the future.

However this responsibility does not require you to brandish outlandish motivational commentary but in-fact action and a stick-to-itiveness towards your goals. Managing your peak training, with recovery based tactics along with ensuring a proper diet and supplementation plan is adhered to without failure as testament to your commitment.

Devotion is not a “chit-chat” or a motivational speech but shown by action and though it may be difficult to visualise your realm of influence, leadership starts with one man or woman showing the path. As you respond to the challenge of injury, so will others, as you to battle against poor habits that led to weight gain, so will others be strengthen by your resolve and as you establish a exercise regime for the first time in your life, so will others. Within each of us there is a leader and within each of us, as many of you know, there is greatness but we must summon it and use it to help others attain their goals.

As you attack your goals today and each day remember your actions speak to the next generation and create great ripples. Be bold in the face of adversity, display pride in your walk, commit yourself to a life with honour and help build leaders of tomorrow.
